A Mountain of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season

The Yuletide season offer a plethora of pursuits much better than catching up on the updates: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and using meditation skills to not arguing with relatives. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling announcements surfaced during the festive period, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Truly the most shocking announcement, the much-discussed troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt the series' continuation. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not yet been announced.
